Recent SXSW Alumni Updates!

It's been a busy week in the press for some of our SXSW 2007 filmmakers. Here's a brief recap:

- At the Los Angeles Times, Gina Piccalo had her way with two different SXSW 2007 docmakers, in two separate articles. She chatted with Rick Caine and Debbie Melnyk, about their Michael Moore documentary, Manufacturing Dissent, on the eve of what is sure to be a huge nationwide expansion of Moore's Sicko. Plus, timed with this year's Los Angeles Film Festival, Piccalo profiled the SXSW-winning documentary, Billy the Kid.

- Speaking of Billy the Kid and the L.A. Film Festival, indieWIRE shares a sweet photo of Billy himself, meeting fellow SXSW 2007 doc subject, Ron Holiday of Cat Dancers.

- SXSW 2007 Opening Night Film, The Lookout, has announced its DVD release. Cinema Blend shares the details, including cover art, and more thoughts on a film their reporter calls "already one of my favorite movies of this year."

- For The Boston Globe, Don Aucoin takes a look at the story behind Bill Haney's SXSW prize-winning (Emerging Visions Audience Award) documentary, The Price of Sugar. (free site reg required)

- Variety's Dennis Harvey reviews K. Ryan Jones' sobering documentary feature, Fall From Grace, which also premiered in our "Emerging Visions" section this year.

- DIY Filmmaker Sujewa interviewed SXSW's Matt Dentler for his blog the other day.
