The Dewey Winburne Community Service Award commemorates the noble vision of SXSW Interactive Festival co-founder Dewey Winburne. As such, this trophy pays tribute to the innovators who are using community technology to help level the playing field between the haves and the have nots. For 2008, the boundaries of the prize are being extended to include all of the Lone Star State. If you know of someone living in Texas who uses new media technology in a hands-on fashion to improve the lives of society's less fortunate, then we want to hear about this person. The ten finalists for the Dewey Winburne Community Service Award will be recognized during a special ceremony at the 2008 SXSW Interactive Festival. These finalists will also be part of the increased community technology programming planned for next spring's event.
