What is "Grindhouse" and why is it such a big deal all of a sudden? Writer/director Robert Rodriguez talks about his new film with Quentin Tarantino, the April release 'Grindhouse,' as well as the history behind the "grindhouse" genre. After attending UT film school, Rodriguez scrapped together funds and brought us the cult classic 'El Mariachi.' He hasn't slowed down. 'Desparado,' 'The Faculty,' 'Spy Kids' and 'Sin City' are just a few of his cinematic delights. Here are his latest batch of anecdotes.

A big part of every SXSW Festival are the panels held at the Austin Convention Center. Leaders of the film industry meet to discuss the current issues of the business to an audience of badgeholders. There are also one-on-one mentor sessions and mini-meetings to offer even greater insight into select topics.
The panels at SXSW have been hailed as some of the most extensive and educational forums found in a festival setting. The business and art of making films come together in a unique environment only SXSW could provide. Register for your SXSW badge early, and save!

It's been a busy week in the press for some of our SXSW 2007 filmmakers. Here's a brief recap:
- At the Los Angeles Times, Gina Piccalo had her way with two different SXSW 2007 docmakers, in two separate articles. She chatted with Rick Caine and Debbie Melnyk, about their Michael Moore documentary, Manufacturing Dissent, on the eve of what is sure to be a huge nationwide expansion of Moore's Sicko. Plus, timed with this year's Los Angeles Film Festival, Piccalo profiled the SXSW-winning documentary, Billy the Kid.
- Speaking of Billy the Kid and the L.A. Film Festival, indieWIRE shares a sweet photo of Billy himself, meeting fellow SXSW 2007 doc subject, Ron Holiday of Cat Dancers.
- SXSW 2007 Opening Night Film, The Lookout, has announced its DVD release. Cinema Blend shares the details, including cover art, and more thoughts on a film their reporter calls "already one of my favorite movies of this year."
- For The Boston Globe, Don Aucoin takes a look at the story behind Bill Haney's SXSW prize-winning (Emerging Visions Audience Award) documentary, The Price of Sugar. (free site reg required)
- Variety's Dennis Harvey reviews K. Ryan Jones' sobering documentary feature, Fall From Grace, which also premiered in our "Emerging Visions" section this year.
- DIY Filmmaker Sujewa interviewed SXSW's Matt Dentler for his blog the other day.
