Synopsis:
While Harrodown Hill is based on the controversial suicide case of British scientist and weapons inspector David Kelly, the video does not reference the case literally but rather does so through metaphor and symbolic imagery. White's video is a quietly intense call to consciousness in an age of disinformation, preemptive war and unprecedented governmental secrecy.
Director's Bio:
Chel White has been making films independently for over 20 years. Consistently defying categorization, his work explores obsession, alienation, love, memories and dreams. His narrative films are often told from the perspective of the estranged individual, the outsider looking in. He uses allegory and occasionally black humor to paint indelible pictures of the human experience. Described as a cinematic poet, his work is intricate, sublime, and beautiful. From SXSW to Rotterdam, the films of Chel White have been shown in film festivals all over the world and recognized with many awards (including Best Short Film from the Stockholm Film Festival). His film, 'Magda', was included in the 2005 SXSW Festival. Chel's work has screened at the Smithsonian Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the High Museum in Atlanta. Two television commercials he directed are in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Chel White has been a vital part of the Portland (Oregon) filmmaking community for the past 20 years. So far, he has avoided moving to Los Angeles.
