Synopsis:
In June of 2004, Mexico City witnessed one of the largest marches in its history as citizens protested the climate of insecurity that has become so pervasive in their country. Notwithstanding the public outcry, the following year the United Nations declared Mexico to have the highest incidence of reported kidnappings in the world. Today, insecurity affects all Mexicans, regardless of their social class. "Ya Basta!" (Enough!) is a feature-length documentary with never before seen footage from kidnappings and police line ups; interviews with six kidnap victims and the father of a seventh, whose daughter was killed after he paid her ransom; along with the head of the Agencia Federal de Investigacion (known by its acronym, AFI, Mexico's equivalent to the FBI), and the head of the anti-kidnapping division for the State of Mexico. Director's Bio:
Ricardo Ainslie is a native of Mexico City, Mexico, and a psychologist-psychoanalyst who uses films, books, and exhibits to capture community conflicts and experiences. His 30-minute documentary film "Looking North: Mexican Images of Immigration" was screened at the 2006 APA Expert Conference on Immigration, at the 2006 Lineae Terrarum International Borders Conference in El Paso & Ciudad Juarez. | |
