Say It Loud, I'm What? And I'm Proud
Saturday March 17
1:30 PM - 2:45 PM
Room 18 ABC, Austin Convention Center
How does being non-white change your career prospects? How does being white change your perspective on the resources needed to have that career? What happens when you confuse people about whether you're black, white or something else? What does all this have to do with creativity or for that matter, your whole life? A discussion of how we connect--and why we don't--across the borders of race and ethnic identity.
Join Garland Jeffreys, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck D and moderator Dave Marsh for this special SXSW panel located in room 18ABC at 1:30 today, March 17th.

"The festival is still a place where record label scouts see bands and make deals. But it is also, for many more performers, a hub for operating outside the recording business.... It could be finding a European distributor for a self-released album or the offer of a Midwestern college tour instead." New York Times, March 20, 2006
Each March SXSW Music presents new opportunities to make your vision reality. Musicians and the companies they work with have used SXSW as a cost-effective way to promote themselves since 1987. They come back year after year because SXSW works! It's a potent method to connect with press, radio, and other music industry players.
By day, the music industry's most accomplished and creative personalities collaborated, argued, and shared their experiences in dozens of panels, workshops, interviews, and meetings. Over 1400 acts showcased last year before more than 8000 registrants from all over the world. Pop, jazz, country, blues, reggae, hip hop, electronica - every imaginable style of music, from nearly every continent - is represented each night at over 50 of Austin's premier stages, many within walking distance of one another.
There's more amazing music performed and crucial business conducted in Austin over those few days than anyone who hasn't been to SXSW can imagine. If you have been, you'll want to come back, if you haven't, now is your chance. Make South by Southwest part of your plans this year.
