Hummersqueal

The year 2000 not only ushered in the new Millennium. It was also the year Hummersqueal? was born. Hummersqueal? got together to play their music of choice (ROCK) just because they felt like it.
Hummersqueal? are: Salvatore Vitale, (guitar) Alfonso Contreras, (drums/vocal) Normand Olea (bass) and Christian Guijosa (guitar/vocals) all natives of Mexico City whose collective mission is simple: to play good/intelligent rock-and-roll about life experiences in the big city, growing up, and love for their generation regardless of language. Inspired by their favorite bands (Pixies, Helmet, Jimmy Eat World among others). The band figured if those guys could do it they sure as hell could too. Its hard to believe that the band has more than half a decade under its belt since this foursomes age range is in the barely twenties. To say Hummersqueal?s track record is impressive is an understatement. These boys have shared the stage in Mexico with the likes of Audioslave, Misfits Ely Guerra, Amigos Invisibles, Jumbo, Joselo just to name a few. Not to mention Hummersqueal? enjoy consistent radio play in the leading Pop/Rock radio station in Mexico City Reactor, in addition to selling 5,000 units in Mexico alone, which is no easy feat. Self-produced, the album Di:Helo was recorded in Mexico and mastered by Don Tyler of Nirvana, Beck, Devo, Jimmy Eat World, Julieta Venegas, Jumbo, fame at Precision Mastering in Beverly Hills, California. Released by SourPop Records. Di: Helo has a sticky quality to it, the more you listen to it the more it grows on you. The overall feel of this production is a gritty smoothness. A rough ride with silky melancholic undertones courtesy of enigmatic lyrics. Highlights: Performing at internationally renowned Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City at Foro Sol on May 13, 2006. Performed this summer in the West Coast during the month of June: 13@ JC Fandango in Anaheim, 14th Canes in San Diego and 15th @ The Knitting Factory in Hollywood. Featured on AOL Latinos Zona Estreno. Myspace.com/Hummersqueal Trivia: The band took their unusual name from an equally unlikely source a 1970s Czech film in which the main protagonist (an autistic child) sports that very word embroidered on his jacket. The title of their debut album Di: Helo is taken from Manu Buenels theory. (Which states that Helo is the name given to human error and deformity that God inadvertently made when creating man.) |
