Die! Die! Die!

Connecting the musical dots between Dunedin, Auckland, Chicago, New York City, and London, Die! Die! Die! is one of the best bands to emerge from New Zealand in over a decade. With an emphasis on pummeling, primal garage-punk rhythms shot through with shard-like guitar work, Die! Die! Die! create a driving sound highly reminiscent of Warsaw, Therapy? and Wire that is utterly immediate and visceral, melodic and danceable.
Formed in November 2003, Die! Die! Die! started playing as many shows as they could in both New Zealand and Australia, including touring support slots for Wire and Franz Ferdinand, and tours throughout the US and UK. Die! Die! Die! recorded their debut album with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac) at his studio in Chicago in the summer of 2005, before heading to the UK and Sweden. Concurrently, the band released their debut eponymous six-track EP, recorded with Dale Cotton (HDU, Dimmer), in New Zealand. Things began to move very quickly from there. Having toured the US as sole support to Aussie compatriots Wolfmother this past Spring, a stunning debut at March 2006's SXSW Festival, and a high profile residency in New York City at The Annex in August 2006 that generated a massive amount of industry buzz, Die! Die! Die! are touring the UK to support their first two singles in August-October 2006. November has the band returning to NYC to play CMJ, then touring New Zealand, Australia and Japan (including all Big Day Out dates) through January 2007. The band will then be returning to tour the US in support of the North American release of their first album, on SAF Records (www.safrecords.com). Die! Die! Die! are Andrew Wilson, Michael Prain and Lachlan Anderson. |
