Lucas Hudgins and The First Cousins

*******
******** *********“I don’t like to call it classic country because that makes it sound like its gone, and it's not gone. We just need to give all of the people who still love this music, a voice in what country music REALLY is” -Lucas Hudgins Lucas Hudgins and his talented troupe, the First Cousins, have sprung out of Austin’s rowdy beer-joint underground, with their debut album, Honky Tonk Illusion. Written in 2005 with a strong foundation in country roots, outlaw, and honky tonk, the unveiling is finally getting the attention it deserves among Austin traditional country music lovers. Hudgins' versatile and distinctive voice slides from a smoky croon to a shrieking holler, often, and without apology exposing his wide scope of vocal influences new and old. With flashes of funk, soul, blues, swing, and roots rock infused, the First Cousins aren't your usual Austin honky-tonk band, yet they really do still have the authentic sound true Country music followers crave, and miss, while keeping their music not only genuine, but refreshingly their own. You need to see what this band is doing now, to fully appreciate the incredible potential and sincere love for this music they bring evry night. Two of Austin's favortie longtime pickers, Dave Biller (Pedal Steel) and Chris Miller (Guitar) now back up original members Ben Massey (guitar), Matt Puryear (Drums), and Nick Moulous (Bass), making them Hudgins' strongest combo of players to date. Hudgins was born and raised in South Austin surrounded by influential music and talented musicians, and has only been writing and performing out of since his early twenties. With the progression of the First Cousins, this late bloomer and his band seem now to be ready to find their following among Texas' growing true-country music fan base. Chris Miller and Hudgins have partnered up to write The First Cousins new batch of songs for 2006, moving towards their next album sometime in 2007, a long awaited project produced by David Leroy Biller and Chris Miller. Expect nothing but good things from these "Cousins". |
