Steve Carter
Genre: Alt Country Hometown: Austin TX
coinhead.com
Steve Carter relocated to Austin from Baltimore in 1979. He performed with The Lotions and Pressure, both popular reggae bands. He was inspired to write country songs and sold over 400 thousand copies of his CDs in Europe, earning him gold, platinum and double platinum CDs. His songs have been covered on 28 CDs and he is well respected among Austin and European songwriters.

Steve Carter's country band, Stop The Truck, has toured Europe several times and his reggae band, the Mau Mau Chaplains, will be featured on the big stage at Auditorium Shores during the 2005 SXSW music festival.

Steve also plays bass with Freddy Powers, Sonny Throckmorton, Michael Ballew and Erik Moll. Through Freddy he has played with Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Merle and Doug Colosio sent Steve the new song "Since I Gave Up Cigarettes" for his 1st solo CD.

IN LOVE AGAIN is an inviting, unique and sophisticated
CD!

Steve Carter's respectable songwriting talent and his
warm, clear vocals will inspire repeated listening. His
Texas songwriter roots are apparent, but there are a
variety of musical styles covered here, from country, folk to big band
influenced swing tunes to reggae, and to Latin flavor,
all the while staying identifiable as Carter's own
style of writing. His songs have been featured on
dozens of albums as well as in film and on HBO. Steve Carter sings with a natural, unassuming ease that invites you to in. Just listen!

This CD features eight of Carter's original songs and also features songs by two of his major influences as a songwriter.

His mentor, the legendary Freddy Powers, is a BMI "Triple Play" award winner for writing 3 # 1 hits in the same year. (Merle Haggard/Willie Nelson/George Jones) Powers contributed his song,"Wing To Wing" to this CD and even sang on the track.

Sonny Throckmorton, a Nashville "Hall of Fame" songwriter with 18 # 1 hits to his credit, wrote "He Don't Have My Heart" and added his voice to the track.

The previously unrecorded track, "Since I Gave Up Cigarettes", was written by Merle Haggard and Doug Colosio and given to Carter via Haggard's longtime
co-writer and friend, Freddy Powers.

This CD features a veritable "who's who" of Austin
musical talent coloring each song.

IN LOVE AGAIN is a true collaboration between Carter
and his producer, Courtney Audain. Audain, a longtime
friend and colleague, knew exactly where this CD was
headed and how to get it there. He knew that Carter was looking for a real
acoustic recording but didn't want to get a folksy
sound. His intuitive production and mixing skills are his own thumbprint on this recording.

This is a CD that you can listen to over and over again. You'll find yourself singing along in no time!

"Steve Carter is not only a great and wonderful friend to whom I have great respect and admiration for but he is an outstanding singer, songwriter and musician. I am proud to have Steve on any show he is on with me. It's a pleasure to know him and to work with him. Always an honor to hear him sing and record my music and must say what a fabulous job he does on them, thank you so much my friend. "

FREDDY POWERS

"Thank you for doing a good job on our song!"

MERLE HAGGARD 10/17/2006

"I really enjoyed the variety and the fantastic craftsmanship on all the songs on the C.D. Steve sings like he means it, and that is what is missing in most music I hear these days!"

DOUG COLOSIO, singer-songwriter "Since I Gave Up Cigarettes", keyboards-Merle Haggard

"Putting it simply, I love Steve Carter; the man and his music. "In Love Again" embodies the sincerity and authenticity of true country music. Steve's music is always a pleasure to listen to, but especially in this album which is packed full of love and brilliant light; it's better with every listen. I could listen to track three on repeat all day long; but then I would miss the rest of the album which includes an appearance by my hero, Freddy Powers."
