Sunwrae (a.k.a. Rae Howell) is an Australian freelance musician; composer and performer on piano & vibraphone. A graduate of Melbourne University Conservatorium, Howell is Artistic Director of the Sunwrae Ensemble, an innovative chamber group who perform her original works for piano, vibraphone, string quartet, harp, clarinets, flutes, lap-steel guitar, double bass and percussion.

Sunwrae produces a unique style of minimalist music; artistically fusing improvisation with elaborate rhythms and textures. She performs as a guest multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, mellophone, melodica & vocals) crossing a vast range of musical genres, also working in various guises as producer, director, composer & performer worldwide.

Sunwrae works with Australian Puppet Theatre Company 'Peepshow Inc', Improvised Dance Ensemble 'State of Flux' and numerous project-based film & mixed media ventures. A finalist in the 2006 APRA Professional Development Awards, Sunwrae is a represented composer of Cantilena Music in
London, UK.

Sunwraes international collaborations include commissions for the ARENA International Theatre Festival in Germany, Musician in Residence at The Banff Centre in Alberta Canada, and The Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida USA. She has worked with Jazz Hall of Fame musician Sam Rivers (USA), Royal Society of Arts Fellow and composer/percussionist Eugene Skeef (Sth Africa/UK) and currently with electronic recording engineer Jon Cohrs (NY, USA), in 'Rabbits without Spleens'.

Album releases include 'Never Stops to Wait' (2005), three Live EP's (2004), one Live Album (MGM Distribution) and six
DVDs from the 'Eavesdropping Concert & Exhibition Series' (2006). Sunwrae is the founder of 'Eavesdropping', an annual touring series of live-recorded concerts showcasing new music and exhibits of visual art.
