Dionysos

Film buffs think that Herbie and the Jedi are characters from American films, but rock fans know that Herbie (Coccinelle) and Jedi are songs by Dionysos. Dionysos started off as an unknown group, climbing up and up. Just like the insy-winsy spider. Ten years later, with a handful of albums to their name, phenomenal concerts, hit songs (like Coccinelle and Jedi), a record that went gold (Western sous le neige) and dreams coming true one by one, Dionysos became a great group. More like a big spider?
Talking of big spiders, theres a big beast on the cover of the new Dionysos album: Giant Jack. He was conceived by the sharp mind of Mathias, Dionysoss lead singer. Giant Jack first existed on paper, in the fantasy novel written by Mathias to help him overcome his mothers death. Monsters in love, the fifth album recorded in April 2005 in Southern England with the illustrious John Parish, has links to Mathiass book, a lonely journey through grief towards adulthood. Lonely? Not really, as Giant Jack is always around and the members of Dionysos are never far away. Mathias is more than happy to get together with his friends and cavort as a single man, woman, or monster towards the emotional roller coasters (passing through poetic tenderness to an explosion of rage) which are the trademark of the group. Monsters in love, 29 August 2005: Dionysos is back, with a magical vengeance. Just for the record, this one contains a lot of ukulele, a sanglophone lesson, a sample of the Kills and a feel of black and white films, as well as a profusion of musical ideas setting the stage for plenty of friendly new monsters. As always with Dionysos, there are voyages aplenty pioneering, imaginary and geographical. The group started coming up with songs a year ago during a stay in Mekns, Morocco. Then they produced a few more in Auvergne, France, putting it all together at John Parishs studio in Bath. And just to wrap things up, or for no good reason whatsoever, Dionysos returned to Morocco in June to play its first concerts since recording Monsters in love. The French tour begins in October, with a show in Paris at the Olympia theatre on 12 December. That falls on a Monday, which should put a smile of plenty of faces for the rest of the week. The album Monsters in love was released 29 August 2006. |
