Wax Fang

Wax Fang began as one mans basement vision of how rock n roll might sound if it simultaneously existed in the past and future, stopping in the present just long enough to stupefy listeners.
In creating the core of Wax Fangs catalog, Scott Carney dedicated months to overdubbing intricate layers of music for what initially was a solo project in every sense. The resulting album, 2005s Black and Endless Night, is the sound of a record collection imploding, combining glam-rock, pop, and surf riffs with the dreamy ambience of vintage Brian Eno and David Bowie. Carney then decided to do a little exploding. He found a fierce band in drummer Kevin Ratterman (Elliott, raconteur/producer) and bassist Jake Heustis who took the albums warm precision and blew it apart in all the right ways. With those two providing a deep, resourceful bottom end, Carney was free to indulge in his distinctive, aggressive guitar playing. This is one big trio. A Louisville native, Carney did his time in the citys thriving hardcore and punk scenes before leaving in 1998 for the Pittsburgh Filmmakers Institute. His plan was to design the perfect marriage of movies and music, but when filmmaking didnt work out he began writing the songs that would become Black and Endless Night. Based on such visually rich songs as Over The Night Is Before and Bi Polar Bear, Carney probably would have made a good director. Lucky for us hes decided that Wax Fang is the movie he wants to make. -Jeffrey Lee Puckett, Courier-Journal Pop Music Writer/Editor |
