The Sammies

It was in Anson County, North Carolina, where Gymmy, Bobby, and brothers Frank and Donnie grew up. With nothing to do in the country other than ride four-wheelers and go to field parties, the boys decided to teach themselves how to make music. Little did they know that their musical talents would some day lead to them forming a band and being signed to a record label. It was in college when the friends first started jamming, performing, and earning such honors such as 2004 Best New Band, 2005 Best Local Band, and 2006 Best Emerging Band from Charlottes Creative Loafing.
Combining their love of all things musical, the band members have been collaborating and creating their own songs, combing the best elements of Southern Rock, early punk, and indie rock a hybrid of Lynyrd Skynyrd, MC5 and Pavement. But with thousands of records between them, all of which they claim to have given some influence, the sound of The Sammies is hard to pin down. At one moment its a jangly R.E.M.-esque tune, such as Coming Out Wild, and the next the band is careening into a Trainwreck. It is this unwillingness to fall neatly into a genre slot, along with an explosive live act, that has won The Sammies a rabid following and multiple nods from regional press. |
