VIP are here to rock your world and blow your mind [and never mind what else]
Now based in NYC, this Gay hardcore rap group formed in Philadelphia in 2004, when Jonny Makeup and Peter Seprish met working in a phone sex room. Influenced and inspired by artists such as Lil Kim and Trina, hard talking Queen Bee rappers, Jonny and Peter would write dirty raps during their breaks about their lives [think bad dates, bad sex, and debauched parties] which Jonny would often practice on customers. Third member Bear then joined to form the VIP trio, and they soon ended up opening for legendary queer punk rockers, Pansy Division. It wasnt long before they were given a record deal by Space Foundation, who released their Mad Coke EP; of which the New York release party at Misshapes saw VIP being lauded by DJ Larry Tee, Sophia Lamar and Beyonce Knowles. Since the Pansy Division show theyve also played and toured with the likes of Scissor Sisters, Fannypack, Le Tigre and Gravy Train!!!! [who even wrote a song about Jonny Makeup] and been threatened with litigation from Van Halen who claimed the logo VIP used on the cover of their EP was confusingly similar to Van Halens. Theyve recently gone down a storm at the Jeremy Scott afterparty during New York Fashion Week September 2006, and will be playing a special Halloween show with Spank Rock in NYC |
