I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House

"Every great once in a while, something comes along to remind you of what rock 'n' roll is supposed to sound like, to push rock's essence and spirit into your veins and manipulate your heart and mind. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House -- their full moniker is borrowed from bare-knuckle legend John L. Sullivan's vivid biography -- is a raucous quintet out of Portland, Oregon, and one of those rare throwback-catalysts…,” writes Steve of Stav of Ink 19 magazine, “I Can Lick’s a heady mix of Americana and punk reminiscent of Robbie Robertson and the Band, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, and Black Flag.”
Lead singer/songwriter Michael Dean Damron or Mike D. was born in Las Vegas, and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following his military service in the 101st Airborne/Air Assault and a stint as an army boxer, he bounced back and forth between Los Angeles and Dallas before packing his bags and moving to Portland, Oregon. Once Mike got settled, he joined a few Portland bands but he also began writing his own songs. Mike’s musical influences ranged from Johnny Cash to Woody Guthrie, from Southern rock to country ballads, and his lyrics told the tale of the common man who struggles to get through each day against an unforgiving world. Throughout 2001, Mike played local shows with his new band, I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House and the fanbase grew. In 2002, the band's debut full-length, Creepy Little Noises, was released on Portland-indie In Music We Trust Records, and the band’s line-up took permanent form. The rhythm section of bassist Mole Harris and drummer Flapjack Texas drive the music forward with a hard rockin’ stomp while harp-player David Lipkind injects the songs with heartfelt Blues and lead guitarist Jon Burbank brings Punk rock to the band's already aggressive sound. “A fan in Louisiana came up to me after a show and said they thought we were the country version of Rage Against the Machine,” says Mike D. The band has split their time between relentllessly touring the United States with the Supersuckers, Reverend Horton Heat, Drag the River, Lucero and Two Cow Garage to name a few, and producing two more studio albums - - Put Here To Bleed (2004, In Music We Trust), Menace (2005, In Music We Trust) - - and an album recorded at a venue in Portland, Live at Dante’s (2006, In Music We Trust). Look for I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House out on the road throughout 2006 in support of Live at Dante’s, and while at home, they’ll head for the studio to record their new album. |
