The Broken West

The Broken West (formerly known as the Brokedown) formed in Los Angeles in the summer of 2004. So far in their young rock and roll life they have already released a critically acclaimed EP The Dutchmans Gold and criss-crossed the country, we're assuming in a beat-up van. In January 2007, Merge will release their debut full length, I Cant Go On, Ill Go On, wherein the boys craft their roughly elegant pop with infectious confidence.
I Cant Go On, Ill Go On is a power pop gem, shimmering and cool, with sharp edges and soaring melodies. Recorded over the course of a year (July 2005 August 2006) with Raymond Richards at Red Rockets Glare in Rancho Park, CA, their debut LP deals with eternal themes of isolation, distance and the longing for a center- a sense of place - in this topsy-turvy world. The Kinks, Big Star, and The Byrds, as well as more contemporary favorites like Spoon and Teenage Fanclub are certainly touchstones, but The Broken West's winning songs stand on their own. The band is as awesome live as they are on this debut album. Look for The Broken West to be touring extensively in support of I Cant Go On, Ill Go On throughout the winter and spring of 2007. |
