The Deaths - Turn for the Worst
Download   |   Stream
The Deaths surprise virgin eared audiences that expect blood, skulls or metal, by performing moody harmonized pop, ghostly waltzes, and dusty instrumentals that linger like cigarette smoke from departed lover. Their songs can be as cold as their frozen Fargo, ND roots, or sear your nerves with white hot flashes of lazy brilliance. Just when you think you have figured it out, they overwhelm you with their own mix of Britpop, and sublime Scottish folk, electrified on the alter and influence of late 60's Psychedelia.

They have been asked to share the stage with bands like Unwound, The Futureheads, 16 Horsepower, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Kills, and Antony and the Johnsons. The Deaths create a tension and relief with every show, moving from beautifully simple ballads, to over the top distorted anthems that can leave the audience on the ground. Since their transplant to Minneapolis they are continually offered the best shows in the area. They are the local favorites, proven by sold out headlining performances, and show stealing support for some of today's the best touring groups (they have even been asked to "tone it down" by some of the very acts they have been asked to play with!). With nominations for best new band, song of the year, and best local band by the Minneapolis City Pages, a write up in Spin magazine, and a nomination for best song of the year by the Minnesota Music Academy, 2005.

Choir Invisible is the first nationally available CD by The Deaths, originally a tour and local only release on GoJohnnygo Records, The Essay Release has been expanded, with new tracks, new digipak artwork, and has been fully re-mastered.

The Deaths are currently putting the finishing touches on their 2nd LP, recorded with Brad Kern (Semisonic/Dan Wilson/N.E.R.D. producer). They also feature on the Northern Star Records (UK) compilation Psych vol. 2 slated for an early 2007 release.
