Nick Butcher is a painter, screenprinter, and musician. Born in Tennessee and based in Chicago, Nick captures color, space, and structure with every move he makes. Hometapes found him though his artwork (see www.programmablepress.com) and were pleasantly surprised to hear the soundtrack. The most pleasant buzzing, clicking, beating and humming racket combines with simple melodies to create Nick's hypnotic sounds - and conjure up distant reflections of To Rococo Rot and Alog.

Hometapes began its handmade-and-limited side label, Placetapes, for Nick's critically-acclaimed book-and-CD project, The Complicated Bicycle. Nick hand-screened, constructed, and signed all five-hundred 24-page books.

Nick is currently working on his new record, Bee Removal, as well as on a collaborative album with The Caribbean (also on Hometapes).
