Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Alternative Champs are a bizarre indie rock band that specializes in delivering fresh weirdness in a fun and palatable way. Playing undeniably-catchy, anything goes music since the mid '90s, they are part performance art, psych-ward soundtrack, satirical theater, and arena rock band. The Champs are a musically innovative and often hilarious team, with songs so addictive they should be sold on the black market. Crack the Champs in two to find an endless catalog of well-crafted unconventional rock songs with everything from soul ballads to experimental noise, and a themed live show where members might be auto-parts counter guys, softball coaches, or mall walkers. Although they typically start with wrong-headed subject matter the final result is a sunny sounding yet slightly skewed pop experience. The Champs are like an ice cream social with Beck, Boston, Pavement, and The Commodores with side effects that include mild whiplash and a perma-smile. Whatever the mood, once you discover Alternative Champs, you'll be asking, Where can I get more?!
