I swear this band began as just Jesus de Magico. In fact I did swear, repeatedly, the last few times I saw them. Succinct summations such as "sh*t" and "d*mn" came dribbling from my gush like a babe gurgling on teat seepage. Sprung from art-angled indie rock, they have, since their 2002 birth, unraveled into some kind of Pabst-soaked bubonic youth, sickly yet slickly defaming the very top-blown poonk they ply. Since they’ve added "El" to their name, they might as well toss in a few lost Latin put-downs, cuz their sound sure ain't getting any easier to figure. -Eric Davidson
