THE LOW STANDARDS
After years of singing and playing on each other's solo projects, southern California lady-songwriters Angela Correa and Joanie Mendenhall have officially united in THE LOW STANDARDS. Since the two gals quite cherish old jazz standards, show tunes, a witty lyric and the solid snap of a finger, they decided to haunt the dirty nightclubs of the eastside in search of inspiration. In a fit and flurry of audacity they endeavored to create a few new musical low standards of their own. With the addition of Tyler Ward on double bass, Ray Suen on violin, Matt Curreri on glock, toy piano, and drums, and an assortment of trombone and trumpet players - The Low Standards are creating melodically driven jazz infused indie - pop. Now, a mere two months later, THE LOW STANDARDS have wrapped up seven lush tracks--loaded with addictive melodies, stunning harmonies, and a classy cast of guest instrumentalists. This collection of songs is equal parts classic and newfangled, sweet and sassy, and for THE LOW STANDARDS, it is only the beginning. ------- ANGELA CORREA is a Los Angeles based singer songwriter currently working under that bandname Correatown, a rootsy rocking projects with various guesting bandmates. This past year songs by Correatown were heard on Grey's Anatomy as well KCRW's Morning becomes Eclectic. She has been nominated by L.A. weekly as Best new Artist, as well as beloved by L.A. Eastside scene loving bloggers. She is also part of Les Shelleys, a folk duo with Tom Brosseau (Fat Cat Records). ------ JOANIE MENDENHALL is a singer-songwriter in San Diego. Her love for folk, pop, jazz, and classical music led her to make Secretary Waltz, a 2004 album on which Joanie played almost all of the instruments. The album earned rave reviews and a San Diego Music Awards nomination. Joanie has performed extensively in California and New York with her band the Joanie-Men, and also as a key collaborator in the Exfriends, a five-piece rock band. This fall Joanie will go on her first UK tour with the Exfriends. |
