The Laughing was formed in Austin, Tx in 2006 by four young lads with a fondness for glockenspiel enhanced rock music, or as they like to call it, "Glock-Rock". With the inclusion of the baritone sax and the temporary theme of white, crying tigers, members Logan Middleton(vocals, guitars synth) Abram Shook (Bass, Baritone Sax, organ, theremin, percussion) Grant Van Amburgh(Drums) and Raz (Synth, glockenspiel, percussion) now have fully evolved The Laughing into the realm of what they call, "smut-core"
Roxy Music, Bowie, the Boss, Prince, Talking Heads, and no-wave being the primary influences of the band. "Jungle Smut with very catchy hooks."
They are a new band, but their live-show has been referred to as being "Fucking Amazing" by drunken austin show goers.
As a result, the blogs started buzzing and their fanbase started growing rapidly even before the release of any recorded music. The band recently released its debut EP, TIGER CRY - recorded by the Austin indie-recording wizard, Erik Wofford at Cacophany Recorders (See Voxtrot, The Black Angels, Okkervil River, Explosions in The Sky, and many other fantastic Austin bands). Tiger Cry and the imagery surrounding it is simply a prelude to things much bigger coming soon from The Laughing.
