The White Whale Collective must have gold miner bloodlines. They've managed to sift through Vancouver's raging rivers of indie pop-rock, panning out some melodious Beatle-esque nuggets. Enter Castle Project, ex-Spitfires Ryan Ostiguy, and his dour titled debut effort. Fusing baroque charm with delicate embellishments of cello, synth and bombastic brass, Ostiguy does the impossible; creating a gorgeous pop record dedicated to the break up of his marriage. Castle Project's debut was recorded by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, New Pornographers, 54-40, A.C. Newman) at Mushroom Studios. All instruments were recorded by Ryan with help from a few friends. Kurt Dahle (New Pornographers) sings backups and plays percussion, Megan Bradfield (Limblifter) played Cello and Double Bass while Phil Comparelli (54-40) played trumpet. Diaries of A Broken Heart was mastered by Todd Simko (Pure).

The past year has found 3 videos (The Airways, Broken Glass and In Frustration) for the album being in full rotation at Much Music, and featured on The Wedge and Going Coastal. They’re calling the Airways video the "Cutest video of the year"! Castle Project has also been charting across the country and recently toured Canada around their showcase at NXNE.
