Via Audio

Via Audios beginning was rather inauspicious for a Berklee (College of Music) band in 2003. Friends get
together after class to write songs, band plays venues around Boston, band records an EP in their apartment, EP catches the attention of a small independent label and label agrees to release said EP. However, unlike most Berklee bands that release an album, only to simply fade away, Via Audio began to gather serious momentum. Their indie pop sound, reminiscent of bands such as Stars and Matt Pond PA struck a chord with fans and critics alike. The result was press quotes such as, contender for best debut of the year (Delusions of Adequacy), and the bands loyal following snatching up nearly three thousand copies of their self-titled EP. Fast forward a couple years and things continue to get interesting when Death Cab For Cuties Chris Walla stumbles across the bands MySpace page and is instantly blown away. Walla is so impressed by his new favorite band that he features them in his column in the Winter 2006 issue of Under The Radar. Just as Via Audio was coming down from Wallas praise, the group is contacted by Jim Eno, drummer (and producer) for Spoon. Eno, who fell in love with the bands demo offers to record their next album in Austin, TX. So after two weeks of working around the clock at his Public Hi-Fi studio in June 2006, Via Audio completed their debut full-length album, Say Something. Although their EP received praise and created a name for the band, Say Something stands out as the album that defines Via Audio. Recording the EP was extremely different then recording Say Something. The EP was fairly thrown together; it was more as a project than a record. At the time we didnt know where Via Audio was heading or what was going to happen. With the new record we had a very specific vision. The new record reflects who we are more because we had time to mold and strengthen our sound, said bassist David Lizmi. That strengthened sound is a diverse and airy mesh of pop sounds that hops from organic Elliott Smith lows to blippy Postal Service highs. The rich diversity of their songs comes from Via Audios team of eclectic songwriters. Although we are an indie pop band, everyone comes from different scenes, and the result is a more diverse sound. Tom almost exclusively listens to 90s grunge; Jess listens to indie rock, Danny is into 60s melodic rock; and I listen to world music, said Lizmi in a July 2006 interview with Alternative Press. Following their sold out CMJ performance and their addition to the Bigshot Touring roster, the band will be spending the winter blanketing the East Coast with tour dates as they gear up for the 2007 release of 'Say Something.' |
