Geno Young:
We've all got a story to tell, and this soul brother is waiting to tell his side. Our story starts in Dallas, Texas where Geno was born and raised. Born to a musical family, Geno began playing violin and piano at an early age. He cultivated his talent at the Arts Magnet High School where he walked the same harmonious hallways as Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, and Norah Jones. To further his love of music, Geno studied music at Howard University in Washington, D.C. "My time in college was when I really started to hear music in my head that I wanted to express", he states. It was during these years that he began to explore his passion for soul music and developed his production and songwriting skills. The next chapter of our story finds our soul Brother touring the world as musical director, arranger, and producer for multiple Grammy award winner, Erykah Badu. "I learned so much from that experience", he says. "Badu taught me how to enjoy the freedom in my art, I mean how to write and sing what you feel and to never shortchange your audience". Geno wrote and produced the hit songs "Times a Wastin'" and "Orange Moon" on the 2001 release "Mama's Gun". He also served as associate executive producer for N'Dambi's "Tunin'up and co signin'". Most recently Geno served as a producer and A & R director for label mate and soul star Carmen Rodgers' "Free" album. After contributing his genius to several hits, Geno had plenty to offer his first solo project. "The Ghetto Symphony" has already received extraordinary reviews from acclaimed music sources and is available worldwide. One of the most versatile artists in soul music today, Geno is bound to write new chapters in the history of soul artistry. He is a singer in the mold of the classic soul singers of our time, fusing passion with precision and old soul with new style. Prepare to be a part of this soul brother's finest chapter yet, the one that will be written by the soul that he shares with you. Carmen Rodgers: Every so often a superstar is discovered- a star that is untouchable and appears to transcend all earthly boundaries. There is nothing about Carmen Rodgers that is untouchable, yet her music definitely says superstar. In fact, she is so touchable that you can literally feel the warmth of her broad smile. Her "home girl next door" charm resonates through a serenic flow of words that seems to invade your most private thoughts. It's the delivery of those words that is refreshingly calm and patient making you want to scream, "Take your time, girl!" You sense that she is not singing words, but experiences and the issues of her heart. Probably because she's truly singing from the core of her heart. Carmen has the talent and ability to inspire millions of people . . .one heart at a time with her debut release "Free." Born in Mississippi and raised in Dallas, Texas, Carmen's passion for singing began at the early age of four. As an adult, she began writing songs and her paths crossed with N'Dambi (a successful artist who sold over 100,000 copies worldwide.) N'Dambi was so impressed by Carmen's natural talent, that she invited Carmen to tour as a background vocalist. After the tour, Carmen began hosting an open mic for poets and song writers at Sankofa Café, where artists like Floetry, N'Dambi, Kindred, and most often Erykah Badu graced the mic with their newest selections. The sultry songstress has pulled her rank among these talents as an artistic and accomplished singer/songwriter. Carmen's music has become increasingly popular and as a result she made over 50 appearances in 2003 & 2004 alone. A portion of her popularity stems from her ability to captivate any audience. Her "sweet jazzy soul" sounds gently massage the ears of listeners with every lyric. Currently, Carmen can also be heard on the "Hidden Hits" compilation album on Hidden Beach, "Soul Sophisticated" compilation album on the Compendia Music Group label. Carmen's music is currently available worldwide. There are no mixing words on her album, Free, just 13 tracks of pure everyday emotions that are waiting on the rest of the world to play catch-up. On the last song, you have gotten to know Carmen Rodgers. She is not just a home girl- but also a woman. A woman who truly respects art and favors the gift of song. The gift is experienced but innocent, controlled yet careless and well- FREE! A star is discovered . . . |
