Terry Reid is THE musician’s musician. A longtime US resident and exile from his native England, he is working on an album of new songs, many of which give a personal account of his experience and views on life. He has an impossibly rich story to tell; from teen rock prodigy through all of his years in rock ’n'roll and possesses an extraordinary, vocal talent. As the finest British blue-eyed rock/soul voice he earned the nickname "Superlungs" In recent years he has enjoyed national UK press and radio coverage and performances at London’s legendary Ronnie Scotts and The 100 Club as well as the Glastonbury Festival and Womad. His shows at The Joint in Beverly Hills were a talking point for intimacy, showmanship and his interpretive vocal style. Every once in a while friends and peers would drop by , Robert Plant, Keith Richards,Eric Burdon, Roger Daltrey and Donovan all looked him up to play when they were in town. Terry Reid began on a roll with Peter Jay & the Jaywalkers at age 15, later pursuing his solo career and touring the UK, US and Europe extensively in the company of Cream, The Rolling Stones, etc. A catalogue of misfortunes stood between him and the commercial success he surely deserved. As a breaking live act he signed a management deal with legendary UK "hitmaker" Mickie Most. The pair fell out and Terry was tied in legal knots for years to come. His first two albums were recently re-packaged on CD by EMI as "Super Lungs: The Complete Studio Recordings 1966-69" comprising the albums "Terry Reid" and "Bang Bang You're Terry Reid" and a dozen unreleased tracks and demos. You can hear him diving through his jazz, folk and rock influences. This compilation provides some insight, perhaps, into the creative and commercial disputes that swirled around his head as a young artiste. Every major label attempted to sign Terry Reid but it took Ahmet Ertegun and Atlantic Records to release him from his enforced lay-off . His comeback heralded a new sound, with RnB & Latin influences on the 1973 album "River" Whilst recording he forged a lifelong bond and friendship with another SXSW 2007 attendee the legendary Brazilian performer Gilberto Gil, who back then was a political exile in UK. The successor to this album was the Graham Nash produced ‘Seed of Memory’ and these two releases are regarded as the "signature works" in Terry Reids output to date. He's recorded 6 studio albums, the last official release being "The Driver" for WEA and two live albums 'Silver White Light" from the Isle Of Wight Festival in 1970, and "Terry Reid - Alive" His songs have been been covered by CSN&Y, Cheap Trick, John Cougar Mellencamp, Marianne Faithful etc. and featured in numerous film soundtracks, e.g ‘The Devils Rejects’. |
