With ambition in their eyes and solid gold riffs ringing in their ears, Tom Schleiter (lead guitar), along with co-founder Daniel McMahon (bass), concocted the idea of a band one hot summer day in 2006, which eventually turned into a reality. Growing weary of the tired Midwest scene and hearing the same old melodramatic music over and over, the decision was made to create new and interesting music, which they as music lovers, would want to listen to.

An explosion occurred in time and then there was Powerspace.

The first addition was drummer, philosopher and all-around great guy, Kevin Kane. Over the next few weeks the trio was on a mission to find a singer to complete the band. It was Toms own mothers advice that was the answer the band had been looking for. She suggested that Alec Cyganowski, a good friend of Toms from school try out.

Alec Cyganowski - who had never sang in a band before - tried out the following week, and everything seemed to click. Being good friends, the chemistry was there and music began to flow out of them at alarming rates. They knew they had something special but never knew what it would eventually turn into.

The band gigged around the Cincinnati and Chicago scenes before recording their first 5-song EP, aptly titled Houston, We Have a Party in summer 2006. The band has since joined forces with Fueled By Ramen Records and what is perhaps the greatest family of bands ever to exist. Powerspace recorded their first full-length album with Marc McClusky in January, to be released summer 2007. The band will be touring non-stop through the end of 2007.

The four members describe their style as intergalactic power-pop, which fuses shredding guitars and soaring vocals to form a unique sound. Combining four different perspectives of musical interest and influence ranging from such bands as The Wrens, VHS or Beta, Secret Machines, Rush, Van Halen and the musical stylings from the soundtrack to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Powerspace has created a sound they can call their own.
