Dandi Wind
Dandi Wind was formed in 2003 by Dandilion Wind Opaine (vocals) and Szam Findlay (music) in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Recently the group moved to Montreal's burgeoning music scene, where they enlisted drummer Evan Pierce to augment an already-mindblowing live show. Upon its inception, Dandi Wind has attracted more than their fair share of press in prestigious publications abroad such as Plan B, the NME, i-D (three issues straight), France's ARTE TV, and Dazed and Confused. At home, they have appeared on the cover of tastemaking monthlies such as Discorder, The Nerve, and Nightlife Montreal, while enjoying regular major broadsheet coverage for their inimitable, immersive approach to music and media-mashing - Dandi and Szam first collaborated in sculpture and animation prior to music, and this multimedia expertise translates to a truly sensorily drenching experience in their performance, art, design, and video, all done by themselves.
Much has been made of the Dandi Wind live experience, whose legend has been growing with every show. The sheer wall-climbing, feral physicality of Dandis stage performance, in lockstep with Szam's and Evan's relentless playing, can belie the fact that their show is startlingly tight for something seemingly on the verge of utter chaos. During their touring with fellow infamous club-rockers such as The Klaxons, Hidden Cameras, Final Fantasy, Justice, Shychild, Simian Mobile Disco, Les Georges Leningrad, Broken Social Scene and Erase Errata, the trio of Dandi Wind often outshined their better-known compatriots. Some of their more memorable shows include fly-ins to locales as diverse as Mexico City, Oslo, Paris and Calgary (!?); four-peat touring of the UK; playing twice at Montreals huge gay-pride outdoor show; once in a disused post office; and last fall playing their biggest indoor show ever at the infamous Fabric club in London, England with Erol Alkan of Trash (oversold to 2300 people). They have released 4 eps/singles and a full length album (14 songs / 10 videos) titled Concrete Igloo which highlights Dandis animations in addition to the music. They self-released the LP on their own Todtenschlaf Records in November 2005 (reissue on SLUM and in Europe on Alt:Del). Due in 2007 is a 2nd full length album on Alt:Delete/Because/SLUM titled Yolk Of The Golden Egg. We are creatures of the Wind...Wild is the Wind. |
