Conference Volunteer Information

• There are approximately 40 Conference crews working around the Austin Convention Center (ACC) and SXSW Film Festival venues. Click here to see Conference crew descriptions.

• Conference Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

• Conference volunteers must work a minimum of 30 hours. In order to earn perks, volunteers must work a minimum of 40 hours.

• Conference volunteers are able to schedule shifts throughout the 10 days of the festival. Crews operate anytime between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00am.

• Conference Volunteers are responsible for scheduling their own shifts with the crew chiefs. While special accommodations can sometimes be made, volunteers must choose shifts according to the established crew schedule.

All volunteers must attend the Bag Stuffing on Thursday, March 6, 2008, beginning at 6:00pm. The Bag Stuffing is mandatory as it also serves as the final orientation and Convention Center walk-through.

• Attendance is required at various pre-event meetings arranged by the crew chiefs.

Out-of-town volunteers (those outside of the Austin metro area) must contact a Volunteer Coordinator after completing their online applications.

Travel and lodging arrangements must be confirmed by a Volunteer Coordinator in order to complete out-of-town applications. Out-of-town volunteer applications must be completed NO LATER than February 15th, 2008. We do not provide travel or lodging accommodations.


Perks

NOTE: In most cases, new volunteers are limited to a maximum of 50 hours, and are not eligible for Music or Platinum badges.

T-shirts: All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt. T-shirts must be worn at all times while on duty. During the festival, DO NOT wear your volunteer shirt when you are off duty.

Film Pass (40 hrs): Access to SXSW Film Festival screenings free of charge. Access is subject to capacity. Gold and Platinum badges will have priority access over the film pass.

Music Wristband (40 hrs): Access to SXSW Music Festival showcases. Access is subject to capacity and age restrictions. Music and Platinum badges will have priority access over wristbands.

Gold Badge (50 hrs): Access to SXSW Film and Interactive events, including screenings, panels, workshops, trade shows and parties. Access is subject to capacity and age restrictions (in most party venues).

SX Music Pass (50 hrs): Access to SXSW Music Festival venues, Wednesday Conference panels, trade show, and the softball tournament. Music Pass holders will also be able to pick up a Music Big Bag and directory. Venue access is subject to capacity and age restrictions.

Music Badge (60 hrs): Access to SXSW Music events, including showcases, panels, trade show and softball tournament. Badge holders will be able to pick up a Music Big Bag and directory.

Venue access is subject to capacity and age restrictions. The Music badge has priority access over wristbands and SX Music Passes.

Platinum Badge (80 hrs) Access to Film, Interactive and Music events, including film screenings, music showcases, panels, trade shows and softball tournament.

Badge holders will be able to pick up Film, Interactive and Music Big Bags and directories. Venue access is subject to capacity and age restrictions. The Platinum badge has priority access over film passes and wristbands.
